Biography
Baykali Ganambarr is an Australian actor and dancer. He is from the Yolngu people and grew up on Elcho Island (Galiwin'ku) in the Northern Territory, where he speaks Yolngu Matha. His older sister, Rarriwuy Hick, is also an actress.
Ganambarr first gained attention through YouTube videos of his dancing and joined the Elcho Island dance troupe Djuki Mala. While with the group, he made his acting debut as Billy, an Aboriginal tracker, in the 2018 film The Nightingale. He received the 2018 Marcello Mastroianni Award at the Venice Film Festival for the role and was nominated for the 2019 AACTA Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role.
He has since appeared in The Furnace (2020) and The Royal Hotel (2023). In 2024 he performed in the stage musical Big name, No blankets with Ilbijerri Theatre Company.
