Biography
Beatrice Dawson (26 January 1908 – 16 April 1976) was a British costume designer. Born in Lincoln, Lincolnshire, she trained at Chelsea Polytechnic and the Slade School of Art. She began working as a costume designer in the theatre in 1945 and moved into film in the late 1940s.
Dawson received an Academy Award nomination for Best Costume Design (Black and White) for The Pickwick Papers (1952) and three BAFTA nominations. Her film credits include Pandora and the Flying Dutchman (1951), The Importance of Being Earnest (1952), The Prince and the Showgirl (1957), The Servant (1963), Woman of Straw (1964) and Accident (1967). She also designed for stage productions and television, and frequently collaborated with actor Dirk Bogarde.
