Biography
Beatriz Di Benedetto (also credited as Beatriz De Benedetto) is an Argentine costume designer. Born on 3 January 1945 in Tres Arroyos, Buenos Aires Province, she studied fine arts and art history locally before completing a degree in scenography at the National University of La Plata in 1970. Her teachers included Saulo Benavente and Carlota Beitía.
She began her career as an assistant in art and costume departments for cinema, while also working in theatre and opera. A 1973 scholarship took her to study at RAI in Florence. Di Benedetto has designed costumes for more than forty feature films, many of them period pieces, as well as television series. Her credits include The Motorcycle Diaries (2004), The Two Popes (2019) and Kill the Jockey (2024).
She has received multiple awards, including the Konex Platinum Award in 2011 for costume design, several Premios Sur and Cóndor de Plata prizes. Di Benedetto teaches character design and characterisation at the Escuela Nacional de Realización y Experimentación Cinematográfica (ENERC) and is a voting member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
