Biography
Becky Johnston is an American screenwriter. She grew up in South Haven, Michigan, and graduated from the Interlochen Fine Arts High School in 1973. In the late 1970s she was a co-founder of the No Wave Cinema movement in New York and made independent films including the Super 8 feature Sleepless Nights (1979).
Johnston wrote the screenplays for Under the Cherry Moon (1986), The Prince of Tides (1991, co-written with Pat Conroy), Seven Years in Tibet (1997), Arthur Newman (2012, which she also produced) and House of Gucci (2021, co-written with Roberto Bentivegna). The Prince of Tides received Academy Award and Writers Guild of America nominations for Best Adapted Screenplay; Under the Cherry Moon was nominated for a Razzie Award for Worst Screenplay. She has also worked on uncredited script revisions and appeared in the documentary Jean-Michel Basquiat: The Radiant Child (2010).
