Biography
Béla Viktor János Bartók (25 March 1881 – 26 September 1945) was a Hungarian composer, pianist and ethnomusicologist. He studied at the Royal Academy of Music in Budapest and later taught there.
Bartók is known for his orchestral, chamber and piano works, including Music for Strings, Percussion and Celesta (1936). His pre-existing compositions have been used in films, notably the third movement of that piece in Stanley Kubrick’s The Shining (1980). He is also credited on Scene of the Crime (1970).
