Biography
Ben Philippe is a Haitian-Canadian novelist and screenwriter. Born in Haiti and raised in Montreal, he holds a BA from Columbia University (2011) and an MFA in fiction and screenwriting from the Michener Center for Writers at the University of Texas at Austin (2014). He is based in New York City and teaches screenwriting at Barnard College.
Philippe is the author of the young adult novels The Field Guide to the North American Teenager (2019), which won the 2020 William C. Morris Award, and Charming as a Verb (2020), as well as the memoir Sure, I'll Be Your Black Friend (2021). His television writing credits include episodes of Only Murders in the Building (2021–2023), for which he received Writers Guild of America Award nominations, Interview with the Vampire (2022), Lucky Hank (2023) and The Paper (2025).
