Biography

Ben Sidran is an American jazz and rock keyboardist, pianist, vocalist, producer and composer. Born in Chicago in 1943 and raised in Racine, Wisconsin, he studied at the University of Wisconsin–Madison before completing a PhD in American Studies at the University of Sussex in England.

Early in his career he played keyboards with the Steve Miller Band and has since produced albums for artists including Mose Allison, Van Morrison, Rickie Lee Jones and Diana Ross. He has released numerous solo recordings and hosted radio and television programmes on jazz. Sidran composed the score for the documentary film Hoop Dreams (1994), on which he also served as music producer.
