Biography
Bernadette Lafont was a French actress who appeared in more than 120 feature films. She made her screen debut in François Truffaut’s short Les Mistons (1957) and went on to work with leading New Wave directors including Claude Chabrol in Les Bonnes Femmes (1960) and Nelly Kaplan in La Fiancée du pirate (1969).
She is known for her role as Marie in Jean Eustache’s The Mother and the Whore (1973). Later credits include An Impudent Girl (1985), Gwendoline (1984), A Cat in Paris (2010) and Paulette (2012). Lafont received a César Award for Best Supporting Actress for An Impudent Girl and an Honorary César in 2003. She was made an Officer of the Legion of Honour in 2009.
