Biography
Bernard Gorcey was an American actor. Born Baruch Ugorsky in Russia in 1886, he immigrated to the United States as a child and began his career in vaudeville before performing on Broadway, where he appeared in productions including Abie's Irish Rose.
He made his film debut in the 1928 adaptation of Abie's Irish Rose and went on to appear in numerous shorts and features. Gorcey played Mr. Mann in Charlie Chaplin's The Great Dictator (1940). From 1946 to 1955 he portrayed ice cream shop owner Louie Dumbrowski in the Bowery Boys series of B-movies, appearing in forty-four films alongside his sons Leo Gorcey and David Gorcey.
Gorcey died in Los Angeles in 1955 following a car accident.
