Biography
Bernard Punsly was an American actor known for his roles in the Dead End Kids films of the late 1930s and early 1940s. Born in New York City, he began his professional acting career as a child on Broadway. At age 12 he was cast as Milty in the 1935 play Dead End, reprising the role in the 1937 film adaptation.
Punsly appeared in around 19 films, including Dead End (1937) as Milty, Angels with Dirty Faces (1938) as Hunky, They Made Me a Criminal (1939) as Milt, and other entries in the series such as Crime School (1938) and Hell's Kitchen (1939). He left acting in 1943 to join the US Army, where he received medical training. After the war he qualified as a physician, practising for nearly 50 years in the Los Angeles area and serving as chief of medicine at a Torrance hospital. He died in Torrance, California, in 2004.
