Biography
Bernd Fischer is a German cinematographer and director. Born in 1964 in Munich, he trained as a photographer before studying film and television camera at the Filmhochschule Babelsberg (HFF Konrad Wolf) from 1991 to 1996. He has worked as a cinematographer on more than fifty film and television productions since 1992.
Fischer is known for his work as director of photography on the series Babylon Berlin (2017–2022), for which he shared the Deutscher Fernsehpreis in 2018. He also contributed to Russian Ark (2002) as additional or supervising cinematographer. In 2003 he directed the documentary Grüsse aus Dachau, which received the Baden-Württembergischer Dokumentarfilmpreis and other recognition. Since 2020 he has been professor of audiovisual media design and production at the Berliner Hochschule für Technik.
