Biography
Bette Henritze (also credited as Bette Joan Henritze) was an American actress of stage, film and television. Born in Betsy Layne, Kentucky, she moved to New York to study acting at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts. She made her Broadway debut in 1948 in Jenny Kissed Me, credited as Bette Howe, and appeared in numerous Broadway and Off-Broadway productions over five decades, including several Shakespeare plays. In 1967 she received an Obie Award for her Off-Broadway performances, including in The Rimers of Eldritch.
Henritze's film roles include the operating room nurse in The Hospital (1971), Woman Candidate in The World According to Garp (1982), Mrs. Murphy in Brighton Beach Memoirs (1986), Emma in Other People's Money (1991), Mrs. Skinner in The Object of My Affection (1998), Mrs. Leacock in Far from Heaven (2002) and Annie in Taking Woodstock (2009). She also appeared in television series such as Third Watch.
