Biography
Bill Dickey (1907–1993) was an American professional baseball catcher who appeared as himself in two feature films. Primarily known for his long career with the New York Yankees, he portrayed the real-life catcher in the biographical drama The Pride of the Yankees (1942), directed by Sam Wood and starring Gary Cooper as Lou Gehrig.
Dickey also played himself in The Stratton Story (1949), a film about pitcher Monty Stratton. His film appearances were limited to these roles as a player appearing as himself.
