Biography
Billy Halop was an American actor. Born William Halop on 11 February 1920 in New York City, he began his career in radio in the 1930s before studying at the Professional Children's School. He was cast as Tommy Gordon in the 1935 Broadway production of Dead End and reprised the role in the 1937 film adaptation.
Halop became known as the leader of the Dead End Kids (later billed as the Little Tough Guys) in a series of films, including Angels with Dirty Faces (1938). He appeared in numerous other films and television series, such as Perry Mason, Gunsmoke and The Andy Griffith Show. In the 1970s he had a recurring role as Bert Munson in All in the Family.
His sister, Florence Halop, was also an actress. After his acting career declined, Halop worked as a registered nurse. He died on 9 November 1976 in Los Angeles.
