Biography
Bob Bowes (19 November 1922 – 1 December 1979) was a British actor and teacher. His only film role was as headmaster Mr Gryce in Ken Loach's Kes (1969), an adaptation of Barry Hines' novel A Kestrel for a Knave.
Bowes was headmaster of Ashton Road Secondary Modern School in Castleford during the mid to late 1960s. His appearance in the film aligned with Loach's approach of casting non-professional actors whose real-life experience suited the roles.
