Biography
Boris Strugatsky was a Soviet and Russian science fiction writer. He collaborated with his older brother Arkady on dozens of novels and stories from the late 1950s until Arkady's death in 1991. Their work often appeared under joint credit and included social and satirical themes that gained wide readership in the Soviet Union and beyond.
Strugatsky trained as an astronomer, graduating from Leningrad State University in 1955, and worked at the Pulkovo Observatory before becoming a full-time writer in 1966. He later led a seminar for young speculative fiction writers in Leningrad. The brothers wrote the screenplay for Andrei Tarkovsky's film Stalker (1979), adapted from their novel Roadside Picnic. After 1991 Strugatsky published two further novels under the pseudonym S. Vititsky.
