Biography
Brandon deWilde was an American actor. Born into a theatrical family in Brooklyn, New York, he made his Broadway debut at the age of seven in The Member of the Wedding and became the youngest recipient of a Donaldson Award for the performance.
He reprised the role in the 1952 film adaptation of The Member of the Wedding, for which he received a Golden Globe Award. In 1953 he played Joey Starrett in Shane, earning a nomination for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor. He starred in the ABC television series Jamie (1953–54) and later appeared in films including Hud (1963) as Lon 'Lonnie' Bannon and In Harm's Way (1965).
DeWilde continued to work in theatre, film and television until his death in a road accident in Colorado on 6 July 1972, aged 30.
