Biography

Brigit Forsyth (born Brigit Dorothea Connell) was an English actress. She was born on 28 July 1940 in Malton, North Yorkshire, and brought up in Edinburgh. She trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art after initially working as a secretary, and began her professional career in repertory theatre.

Forsyth was best known for playing Thelma Ferris in the BBC sitcom Whatever Happened to the Likely Lads? (1973–74) and its 1976 film adaptation. Her other television credits include Ruth Maxtible in Doctor Who (1967), Mrs Todd in Agatha Christie's Poirot (1989), Francine Pratt in Playing the Field (1998–2002), and Madge in Still Open All Hours (2013–19). She also appeared in Boon, The Bill, Casualty and Midsomer Murders, and had an extensive stage career.

She was married to television director Brian Mills from 1975 until their separation in 1999; he died in 2006. They had two children. Forsyth died on 1 December 2023.
