Biography
Brown Holmes (1907–1974) was an American screenwriter. Born Kenneth Dewitt Holmes in Toledo, Ohio, he was raised in California and graduated from Hollywood High School. His father was a newspaperman. He worked under contract for Warner Bros. from 1931 to 1936, later for Universal and 20th Century Fox.
His screenwriting credits include The Maltese Falcon (1931), I Am a Fugitive from a Chain Gang (1932), co-written with Howard J. Green, 20,000 Years in Sing Sing (1932) and its remake Castle on the Hudson (1940). He contributed to further adaptations of Dashiell Hammett's novel and to Perry Mason films such as The Case of the Lucky Legs (1935).
