Biography
Bruce Cowling (30 October 1919 – 22 August 1986) was an American film and television actor. Born in Coweta, Oklahoma, he appeared in more than twenty films between 1946 and 1955, often in supporting roles in dramas and westerns.
His credits include Song of the Thin Man (1947) as Phil Orval Brant, The Stratton Story (1949) as Ted Lyons, Battleground (1949) as Wolowicz, Devil's Doorway (1950) as Lt. Grimes, Cause for Alarm! (1951) as Dr. Ranney Grahame, The Painted Hills (1951) as Lin Taylor, Gun Belt (1953) as Virgil Earp, and To Hell and Back (1955) as Capt. Marks. He also played Wyatt Earp in Masterson of Kansas (1954).
Cowling made numerous television appearances in the 1950s, including episodes of The Loretta Young Show, Have Gun – Will Travel, Lassie and Perry Mason. He voiced characters on the Lone Ranger radio series and retired from acting after a 1961 guest role in Hot Off the Wire.
