Biography
Bruce Horak is a Canadian actor and artist. Born in Calgary, Alberta, he lost his right eye and over 90% of the vision in his left eye to retinoblastoma as an infant. He is the first legally blind actor to portray a character in the Star Trek franchise.
Horak trained in theatre at Mount Royal University and Loose Moose Theatre in Calgary, and performed with Calgary's Shakespeare in the Park for six seasons. He is known for playing Hemmer, the Aenar chief engineer, and General Garkog on Star Trek: Strange New Worlds (2022–2023). His other screen credits include Philo Farnsworth on Warehouse 13 (2010) and Adam Viri on Transplant (2020). He has also created and performed numerous stage shows, including Assassinating Thomson, in which he paints portraits live on stage.
