Biography
Ellis J. "Bud" Thackery (1903–1990) was an American cinematographer. He began his career in the silent film era as a matte and glass artist and joined Republic Pictures in 1935, where he headed the process department and served as director of photography on numerous features, B-westerns and serials.
Thackery contributed process photography to Modern Times (1936) and was director of photography on Coogan's Bluff (1968). He received an Academy Award nomination, shared with others, for special photographic effects on Women in War (1940). After Republic closed, he worked at Universal Studios on feature films and television series including Ironside, The Virginian and Emergency!, retiring in 1976.
