Biography

Călin Papură (1950–2019) was a Romanian production designer, art director and set decorator. Born in Bucharest, he began working in the film industry in the early 1970s as an assistant scenographer at the Bucharest film studio before taking lead production design roles from the mid-1980s onwards.

Papură contributed to more than sixty films and television productions. His credits include production design on Beyond the Hills (2012), Youth Without Youth (2007), The Rest Is Silence (2007) and The Oak (1992), as well as earlier work as assistant art director on High Tension (2003) and set decoration on Code Unknown (2000). He received several Romanian awards for art direction, including ACIN prizes in 1985 and UCIN awards in 1994–95 and 2008.
