Biography
Callie Khouri is an American screenwriter, producer and director. Born on 27 November 1957 in San Antonio, Texas, she studied drama at Purdue University and at the Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute in Los Angeles. She began working in music video production before writing her first screenplay.
Khouri wrote the screenplay for the 1991 film Thelma & Louise, directed by Ridley Scott. The film won her the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay in 1992, as well as a Golden Globe Award and a Writers Guild of America Award.
Her other credits include the screenplay for Something to Talk About (1995) and the story for Respect (2021). She directed Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood (2002) and Mad Money (2008), and created the television series Nashville (2012–2018).
