Biography
Camelia Frieberg is a Canadian film producer and director. Born in 1959 in Toronto, Ontario, she studied ethnomusicology at Bennington College in Vermont. After working as a freelance journalist in Toronto, she entered filmmaking as second assistant director on Charles Burnett’s My Brother’s Wedding (1983) and later served as production manager on Atom Egoyan’s Next of Kin (1984).
She collaborated frequently with Egoyan, rising to co-producer on The Adjuster (1991) and producer on Exotica (1994) and The Sweet Hereafter (1997). Both Exotica and The Sweet Hereafter won the Genie Award for Best Motion Picture. She has also produced Jeremy Podeswa’s Eclipse (1994) and The Five Senses (1999), and Daniel MacIvor’s Wilby Wonderful (2004).
Frieberg directed the documentary Crossing the River (1988) and the feature A Stone’s Throw (2006). She has received the Women in Film and Television–Toronto Crystal Award for Excellence in Production.
