Biography
Carol Kaye is an American session musician and occasional actress. Born in Everett, Washington, she began playing guitar as a teenager and worked on the Los Angeles jazz circuit before entering studio work in 1957. She switched to electric bass in 1963 and became one of the most recorded bassists of the era, contributing to thousands of sessions.
Kaye played on numerous film and television soundtracks, including Guess Who's Coming to Dinner (1967). She was a member of the informal group of Los Angeles studio musicians known as the Wrecking Crew and appeared as herself in the 2008 documentary The Wrecking Crew. She has also taken minor acting roles, such as in The Incredibly Strange Creatures Who Stopped Living and Became Mixed-Up Zombies!!? (1964).
Kaye has written instructional books on bass and guitar and continues to be recognised for her session contributions.
