Biography

Carolina Costa is a Brazilian cinematographer. She studied at the University of the Arts London, where she was mentored by Sue Gibson, and later earned a master's degree in cinematography from the American Film Institute in Los Angeles.

Costa has served as director of photography on episodes of the series Insecure (2016). Her feature credits include The Chosen Ones (2015), for which she won an Ariel Award for Best Cinematography; Dance of the Forty One (2020); Hala (2019); Flower (2017); Grotesquerie (2024); and Heroic (2023). Several of her films have premiered at the Sundance Film Festival.

She is a member of the American Society of Cinematographers and was named one of American Cinematographer's Rising Stars of 2018. Costa has received additional Ariel Award nominations and was included on Variety's list of "10 Latinxs To Watch in 2020".
