Biography
Caroline de Vivaise is a French costume designer. She has worked in film since the late 1970s and is a close collaborator of director Patrice Chéreau. She has also worked with Claude Berri, Raúl Ruiz, Bertrand Tavernier, Jacques Audiard and others.
Her credits include Tess (1979), Germinal (1993), Time Regained (1999, nominated for a César), Shadow of the Vampire (2000), Intimacy (2001), Gabrielle (2005), The Princess of Montpensier (2010) and Jappeloup (2013). She has designed costumes for opera productions including several directed by Chéreau.
De Vivaise has won three César Awards for best costumes, for Germinal (1994), Gabrielle (2006) and The Princess of Montpensier (2011). She was appointed Officier des Arts et des Lettres in 2017 and Chevalier de l'ordre national du Mérite in 2024.
