Biography
Cat Stevens, born Steven Demetre Georgiou on 21 July 1948 in London, is a British singer-songwriter who has also recorded as Yusuf and Yusuf Islam. He began his career in the 1960s and achieved international success with albums such as Tea for the Tillerman (1970) and Teaser and the Firecat (1971).
Stevens contributed music to several films. He wrote and performed 'But I Might Die Tonight' for Jerzy Skolimowski's Deep End (1971). His songs also featured prominently in Hal Ashby's Harold and Maude (1971). After converting to Islam in 1977 he largely withdrew from pop music before returning in the 2000s as Yusuf/Cat Stevens.
