Biography

Cathal Watters is an Irish cinematographer. He studied drama and theatre studies at Trinity College Dublin and began his career shooting news and documentaries for the Irish-language broadcaster TG4 before transitioning to narrative film and television drama.

Watters has served as director of photography on the series Peaky Blinders (from 2013), The Alienist (2018), Foundation (2021) and Bodkin (2024). His feature credits include Viva (2015), for which he received an IFTA Award for Best Cinematography, A Dark Song (2016), Handsome Devil (2016) and Rosie (2019). He was elected to the American Society of Cinematographers in 2020 and has received multiple ASC, IFTA and other nominations for his work.
