Biography

Catherine Schell is a Hungarian-born British actress. Born Katherina Freiin Schell von Bauschlott on 17 July 1944 in Budapest, she trained at the Otto Falckenberg School of the Performing Arts in Munich after her family moved there in 1957.

She appeared in British film and television from the 1960s, with early roles including Nancy in On Her Majesty's Secret Service (1969) and Claudine in The Return of the Pink Panther (1975). She is known for playing Maya in the second series of Space: 1999 (1976–1977) and Countess Scarlioni in the Doctor Who serial City of Death (1979).

Schell played Marie-Claire in the 1993 television film The Clothes in the Wardrobe. Her later credits include Grand Duchess Valeria in Dracula (2020) and Zoya Krupp in The Munsters (2022). She was married to actor William Marlowe and director Bill Hays.
