Biography
César Gattegno was a French actor and composer. He appeared in two films by Robert Bresson, as the uncredited prisoner X in A Man Escaped (1956) and as an inspector in Pickpocket (1959). He composed music for several short films and features in the 1960s, including Santa Claus Has Blue Eyes (1966) and Octobre à Madrid (1967).
Born on 30 May 1928, Gattegno trained in music and drama at the Conservatoire in Lyon before moving to Paris in 1948. He worked extensively in theatre as an actor, director, musician, composer and conductor. From 1969 he was based in the Var region, where he founded and directed a theatre company and the Théâtre du Rocher in La Garde until the mid-1990s. He continued to take television roles into the 2000s and died on 9 April 2011.
