Biography
Chantal Akerman (also credited as Chantal Anne Akerman) was a Belgian film director, screenwriter and artist. She was born in Brussels on 6 June 1950 and died in Paris on 5 October 2015.
Akerman is best known for Jeanne Dielman, 23 quai du Commerce, 1080 Bruxelles (1975), which she directed and wrote, and for which she provided an uncredited voice performance. Other notable works include Je tu il elle (1974), News from Home (1977), The Meetings of Anna (1978) and The Captive (2000), all of which she directed and wrote. She began her career with the short Saute ma ville (1968) after briefly attending film school in Brussels.
