Biography
Charlene James is a British playwright and screenwriter. She grew up in Birmingham and trained at the Birmingham School of Acting and the Steppenwolf Theatre Company in Chicago before joining the young writers programme at the Royal Court Theatre in London.
Her play Cuttin' It (2016), which explores female genital mutilation, received the Alfred Fagon Award, the George Devine Award and other honours. On television she has written episodes of A Discovery of Witches (2018) and co-wrote the Doctor Who episode 'Can You Hear Me?' (2020) with Chris Chibnall. She later contributed to The Rising (2022).
