Biography
Charles Farrell (1900–1990) was an American actor who appeared in silent films and early talkies. Born in Walpole, Massachusetts, he attended Boston University and began his career as an extra in the early 1920s. He gained his first substantial role as Chico in the 1927 Fox production 7th Heaven.
Farrell was frequently paired with Janet Gaynor. The pair starred together in more than a dozen romantic films between 1927 and 1934, including Street Angel (1928), Lucky Star (1929) and Change of Heart (1934). He also appeared in City Girl (1930) and other features before his film work declined in the early 1940s.
In the 1950s Farrell returned to acting on television as Gale Storm’s father in the sitcom My Little Margie (1952–1955). He later served as mayor of Palm Springs, California, from 1948 to 1953.
