Biography

Charles Mills, also credited as Charles E. Mills or Charles Elliott Mills, is an American cinematographer and camera operator. He received photographic training while serving in the US Air Force and entered the film industry through the federal government's Minority Labor Pool programme, enacted in 1972.

Mills worked as a camera operator on films including National Lampoon's Animal House (1978), Beverly Hills Cop II (1987) and Days of Thunder (1990). His debut as director of photography came with Boyz n the Hood (1991). Subsequent credits as director of photography include Baby Boy (2001), Body Count (1998) and Karla (2006), as well as episodes of the television series CSI: Miami and In the Heat of the Night. He has also directed episodes of In the Heat of the Night.

Mills is married to Angela Elayne Gibbs.
