Biography

Cheng Pei-pei was a Hong Kong-American actress. Born in Shanghai, she moved to Hong Kong in the early 1960s and began working with Shaw Brothers Studio. She appeared in numerous wuxia films, including Come Drink with Me (1966) as Golden Swallow.

She was known as the Queen of Swords for her roles in martial arts films of the 1960s and 1970s. After a period away from acting, she returned to prominence with the role of Jade Fox in Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (2000). Later credits include Lilting (2014) and Mulan (2020).

Cheng Pei-pei died in the San Francisco Bay Area on 17 July 2024.
