Biography

Chris Atkins is a British documentary filmmaker, journalist and author. He directed the feature documentary Taking Liberties (2007), which examined the erosion of civil liberties under the Blair government, and followed it with Starsuckers (2009), a critique of celebrity culture and the media. His early career included producing low-budget fiction features such as 16 Years of Alcohol (2003) with director Richard Jobson.

Atkins has made several television documentaries for Channel 4's Dispatches and BBC's Panorama, and directed the mockumentary UKIP: The First 100 Days (2015) and the feature Who Killed the KLF? (2021). He was educated at Bromsgrove School and received a BAFTA nomination for his work on Taking Liberties. In 2016 he was convicted of tax fraud and sentenced to five years in prison; he later published the bestselling book A Bit of a Stretch (2020) about his experiences.
