Biography

Christian Schwochow is a German film and television director. Born on 23 September 1978 in Bergen auf Rügen, East Germany, he grew up in Leipzig, East Berlin and Hanover. His mother, Heide Schwochow, is a journalist and screenwriter. He worked as a journalist and reporter before studying film direction at the Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg, graduating with the feature Novemberkind (2008).

Schwochow has directed episodes of the Netflix series The Crown in seasons 3, 5 and 6, serving as lead director and executive producer on the sixth and final season. His other credits include the feature films Paula (2016), The German Lesson (2019), Je suis Karl (2021) and Munich – The Edge of War (2021), as well as the series Bad Banks (2018). He received an Emmy nomination as executive producer on The Crown.
