Biography
Christine A. Maier is an Austrian cinematographer. She was born in 1969 in Graz and studied camera and image design at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna. She has worked as a cinematographer since the early 1990s.
Her early feature credit was Nordrand (1999), directed by Barbara Albert. She has collaborated repeatedly with Albert and with Bosnian director Jasmila Žbanić on films including Grbavica: The Land of My Dreams (2006) and Quo Vadis, Aida? (2020). In 2023 she served as director of photography on one episode of the HBO series The Last of Us, directed by Žbanić.
Maier has received several awards for her work, including the Austrian Film Prize for Best Cinematography and the German Camera Prize. She is based in Berlin.
