Biography
Christopher Willis (born 21 August 1978) is an Australian-born British composer and musicologist. He studied music at the University of Cambridge, where he completed a PhD on eighteenth-century music, and piano at the Royal Academy of Music. He began working in film and television scoring in the mid-2000s, initially contributing additional music to Hollywood features.
Willis is known for his long collaboration with Armando Iannucci. He composed for the HBO series Veep and scored Iannucci’s feature films The Death of Stalin (2017) and The Personal History of David Copperfield (2019). He has also written music for Disney projects including the series Mickey Mouse (2013–2019) and The Lion Guard (2016–2019), as well as Schmigadoon! (2021).
His score for The Death of Stalin won the International Film Music Critics Association Award for Best Original Score for a Comedy Film and was shortlisted for the Academy Award for Best Original Score. Willis has also composed concert and educational music, including a work for the BBC Proms.
