Biography
Chulpan Nailevna Khamatova is a Russian actress of Tatar origin. She was born on 1 October 1975 in Kazan, Tatar ASSR, Soviet Union. She trained at the Russian Institute of Theatre Arts (GITIS) in Moscow, graduating in 1998.
Khamatova began her film career while a student and gained early acclaim in Russia for her role in Country of the Deaf (1998). She is known internationally for playing Lara in Good Bye, Lenin! (2003). Other notable film roles include appearances in Luna Papa (1999), Tuvalu (1999), 72 Meters (2004) and Petrov's Flu (2021). She has also worked extensively in theatre, notably with the Sovremennik Theatre in Moscow.
Khamatova is a co-founder of the charity foundation Podari Zhizn, which supports children with cancer. She was named People's Artist of Russia in 2012. In 2022 she relocated to Latvia.
