Biography
Chunibala Devi (c. 1872–1955) was an Indian actress. A former theatre performer, she made her film debut in Bigraha (1930) and appeared in Rikta (1939) before retiring.
She was brought out of retirement at around the age of 80 by Satyajit Ray to play the elderly aunt Indir Thakrun in Pather Panchali (1955). She died in Kolkata of influenza in 1955, before the film's release, though Ray had arranged a private screening for her. The performance earned her a posthumous Best Actress award at the Manila Film Festival in 1966.
