Biography
Clarence 'Divine Eye' Maclin is an American actor. Born in Tennessee on 29 November 1966 and raised in Mount Vernon, New York, he attended Mount Vernon High School and later earned an associate degree in behavioural psychology from Mercy University. At the age of 29 he was sentenced to 17 years at Sing Sing Correctional Facility for armed robbery. While incarcerated he took part in the Rehabilitation Through the Arts programme and began performing.
Maclin made his feature film debut in Sing Sing (2024), in which he portrays a fictionalised version of himself and receives a story credit. The film draws on his experiences in the prison theatre programme. He also serves as an executive producer on the project.
Since his release from prison in 2012, Maclin has worked as a youth counsellor, creative arts specialist and gang intervention specialist at Lincoln Hall Boys Haven in Somers, New York. His performance in Sing Sing earned nominations for several awards, including Best Supporting Actor at the BAFTA Film Awards, Critics' Choice Movie Awards, Gotham Awards and Independent Spirit Awards, as well as a nomination for the Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay.
