Biography

Clifton Jones (26 July 1937 – 4 June 2025) was a Jamaican actor who worked primarily in British television and film. Born in St Andrew, Jamaica, he moved to Britain in the mid-1950s and trained at the Italia Conti Academy. He began his career on stage, including the original 1958 Theatre Workshop production of A Taste of Honey, and made early television appearances in Emergency Ward 10.

Jones is best known for playing computer specialist David Kano in the first series of Space: 1999 (1975–1976). His other notable television roles include appearances in The Persuaders! (1971), The Professionals (1977–1979) and two episodes of Star Trek: The Next Generation (1991). On film he played King Jabalani in Sheena (1984) and voiced Blackavar in the animated feature Watership Down (1978). He also appeared in The V.I.P.s (1963) and China Moon (1994).
