Biography
Cole Porter was an American composer and lyricist. He was born in Peru, Indiana, on 9 June 1891 and studied at Yale University and Harvard University.
Porter wrote the music and lyrics for the Broadway musical Gay Divorce (1932). The song "Night and Day" from the show appeared in the 1934 film adaptation The Gay Divorcee. His other stage works include Anything Goes (1934) and Kiss Me, Kate (1948); he also contributed songs to films such as High Society (1956) and Silk Stockings (1957).
Porter died in Santa Monica, California, on 15 October 1964.
