Biography

Colin Towns is an English composer and keyboardist. Born in West Ham, London, he began playing piano as a child and worked as a session musician before joining the Ian Gillan Band in 1976 as keyboardist. He contributed to several albums with the band and its successor Gillan before turning to composition full-time in the early 1980s.

Towns has scored numerous British television series and feature films. His credits include Our Friends in the North (1996), Cadfael, Doc Martin, The Crow Road, The Buccaneers, Foyle's War and films such as Full Circle (1977), Vampire's Kiss (1989), The Puppet Masters (1994), Space Truckers (1996) and Guest House Paradiso (1999). He has also composed for animation, theatre and advertising.

Towns founded the Colin Towns Mask Orchestra, with which he has released several albums, and the independent label Provocateur Records. He has received BAFTA and Ivor Novello Award nominations for his television scores.
