Biography
Constance Collier (born Laura Constance Hardie) was an English stage and film actress and acting coach. She was born on 22 January 1878 in Windsor, Berkshire, and died on 25 April 1955 in New York City. She made her stage debut at the age of three in a production of A Midsummer Night's Dream and later appeared in several Shakespearean plays. She married actor Julian L'Estrange in 1905; he died in 1918.
Collier appeared in silent films from 1916, including an uncredited role in Intolerance. Her later film roles included Miss Luther in Stage Door (1937), Mrs Anita Atwater in Rope (1948) and Tina Cosgrove in Whirlpool (1950). She also worked as a drama coach in Hollywood and had a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
