Biography
Cornelius Ryan (5 June 1920 – 23 November 1974) was an Irish-American journalist and author of popular military histories. Born and raised in Dublin, he began working as a journalist in London in 1940 and covered the Second World War as a correspondent. He later moved to the United States, where he became a naturalised citizen.
Ryan is best known for his books on the Second World War, including The Longest Day: 6 June 1944 D-Day (1959), based on extensive interviews, and A Bridge Too Far (1974). He contributed to the screenplay for the 1962 film adaptation of The Longest Day.
