Biography
Cotton Warburton, born Irvine Eugene Warburton, was an American film and television editor. After a career as a college football quarterback at the University of Southern California, where he was an All-American in 1933 and later inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame, he joined Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios as an assistant editor in 1934. He received his first editing credit on the Laurel and Hardy film Air Raid Wardens (1943) and remained at the studio for 19 years.
Warburton moved to the Walt Disney Studios in the mid-1950s. He edited numerous Disney features, including The Absent-Minded Professor (1961), Mary Poppins (1964), The Love Bug (1968), Bedknobs and Broomsticks (1971) and Herbie Rides Again (1974). He won the Academy Award for Best Film Editing for Mary Poppins and collaborated frequently with director Robert Stevenson.
His other credits include That Darn Cat! (1965), Freaky Friday (1976) and The Cat from Outer Space (1978). He died in 1982.
